How can I apply?

You can apply to your chosen SWAP programme through the relevant college's website. Applications typically open towards the end of January for programmes beginning the following August.

Apply through the college website

After you've decided what SWAP programme you want to do, and confirmed your eligibility to join, you can apply to the programme via the relevant college's website.

Applications will open at the end of January for SWAP programmes beginning the following August. Colleges will often not update their course web pages until shortly before applications open, so don’t worry if you still see last year’s course dates on college websites as late as December or early January.

The application process

(1) Application form

This form varies from college to college, but you can expect to be asked for your previous educational history and a personal statement explaining why you'd like to join the course.

(2) Diagnostic test

Most colleges will then ask you to complete a short test on English and/or numeracy.

(3) Interview

You'll be invited to have an interview with college staff where they'll ask you about your motivation to join the SWAP programme. They want to make sure you're ready for the commitment of studying full-time and that you're applying for the right course to get you where you want to go.

Access to Medical Studies

After the initial college interview, applicants to the Access to Medical Studies programme will have a second interview with SWAP.
